Insurance Verification Specialist

Job Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented Insurance Verification Specialist to join our healthcare team. In this role, you will be responsible for verifying patient insurance information to ensure accurate billing and compliance with healthcare regulations. The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of medical coding, including ICD-10 and ICD-9, as well as familiarity with HIPAA guidelines and managed care processes. Your attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced medical office environment will be crucial for success in this position. Responsibilities • Conduct thorough verification of patient insurance coverage prior to services being rendered. • Review and interpret medical records to ensure accurate coding and compliance with billing requirements. • Communicate effectively with insurance companies, healthcare providers, and patients regarding coverage details. • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of insurance policies, procedures, and regulations. • Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations in all aspects of patient information handling. • Collaborate with the billing department to resolve any discrepancies or issues related to insurance claims. • Document all verification activities accurately in the medical office's electronic health record (EHR) system. Skills • Proficient in medical coding practices, specifically ICD-10 and ICD-9. • Strong understanding of insurance verification processes and managed care systems. • Familiarity with medical office operations and procedures. • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills. • Ability to handle sensitive information confidentially in accordance with HIPAA guidelines. • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective interaction with patients and insurance representatives. • Experience working with medical records and coding software is preferred.
