The Role

We are seeking a talented and hands-on Engineering Manager to lead one of our product engineering teams. This full-stack team is at the heart of our mission, responsible for the primary mobile application experience, the content management systems that power our conversations, and the backend services that process data from users and connected IoT devices.

In this role, you will act as a player-coach for a large, senior team of mobile, backend, and full-stack engineers. At Lark, engineering managers are not only strategic thinkers but also hands-on leaders, actively involved in scrum ceremonies and guiding the team toward excellence. You will be responsible for fostering individual growth, ensuring delivery excellence, and guiding the team to build and scale the services that power Lark's health coaching application. This is a highly collaborative role where you will partner closely with product, design, project managers, and other engineering leaders to shape the future of our user-facing products.

What You'll Do

  • Lead and Develop People: Build and nurture a high-performing, inclusive team where individuals can thrive. Conduct regular, impactful 1:1s, providing timely, constructive, and actionable feedback to foster growth. Guide team members in setting challenging yet achievable goals and mentor engineers at all levels.

  • Drive Execution and Delivery: Partner with Product Managers and TPMs to effectively plan and prioritize the team's workload in alignment with the product roadmap. Champion a culture of ownership and accountability, ensuring the team consistently adheres to engineering best practices in development, testing, and deployment.

  • Provide Technical Guidance: In partnership with the team's staff engineers, guide sound technical decisions that balance immediate project needs with long-term system maintainability and scalability. Unblock team members facing technical challenges across a diverse stack including backend (NodeJS, Typescript, Go, Java) and mobile (React Native, Native SDKs) systems.

  • Strengthen Stakeholder Partnerships: Collaborate effectively and proactively with product managers, designers, and other engineering teams to define project scope and manage cross-team issues collaboratively. Represent the team's progress, challenges, and needs accurately and effectively to management and other stakeholders.

  • Improve Team and Organization: Continuously seek and identify opportunities to improve team processes, tools, and workflows to enhance productivity and quality. Contribute to a positive and constructive engineering culture by promoting knowledge sharing within and beyond the team.

What You'll Need

  • Experience leading and coaching a team of product engineers with varying levels of expertise, preferably in a full-stack environment that includes both backend and mobile development.

  • A strong and current understanding of the team's technical domain; familiarity with technologies like NodeJS, Typescript, React (web or mobile), Java or Kotlin, and cloud platforms like AWS is essential.

  • Proven ability to work closely with product managers, designers, and fellow engineers to create optimal solutions and trade-offs.

  • Expertise in agile methodologies, including sprint planning and facilitating effective team meetings such as retrospectives and stand-ups.

  • A passion for people leadership, with a track record of mentoring engineers and fostering a supportive, inclusive, and high-performing team culture.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to skillfully manage stakeholder expectations.

  • Experience with systems that ingest and process data from IoT devices.

  • Experience with ReactNative, Go, Kubernetes, and/or Docker.

  • Prior health tech background and familiarity with HIPAA compliance rules in the context of software engineering and data management.
