Job Description

The main function of a Phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. Responsibilities ? Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate equipment. ? Update patient information accurately. ? Collect and store specimens according to established procedures. ? Explain the process of venipuncture, blood drawing, and other specimen collections (e.g., urine or fecal) in a clear and courteous manner. ? Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. ? Fully understand all physicians' orders. ? Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. ? Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order. ? Check all test requisitions or computer labels against script to ensure 100% accuracy. ? Package specimens for transport. ? Store specimen samples at required temperatures, place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label them, and follow specific procedures for transport to maintain specimen integrity. ? Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. ? Attend annual department training sessions. ? Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Essential Skills ? Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed (if required). ? Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. ? Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. ? High School Diploma or GED. ? 0-2 years of experience. Additional Skills & Qualifications ? Experience in pediatrics and geriatrics is preferred.

Work Environment

This position is located at an IOP-urgent care location, which is a busy site where you will work alone. You are expected to perform up to 30 blood draws daily while standing. Training will be provided on-site, starting with one week at a Patient Service Center (PSC) location, followed by training at the urgent care location. The working hours are Monday to Friday, from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $24.00/hr.
