Software Development Engineer II

Job Location: Dallas, TX Overview: Are you an experienced software engineer (SDE) interested in helping to bootstrap a brand new software organization at Hershey? We are looking to hire the first few engineers for this team. This is a high-impact position requiring a mix of technical and soft skills and a proven track record of delivering software features. We are starting from scratch so you will have a chance to help bring up the entire technical stack. This team will build software across a broad range of problem domains at Hershey, spanning from supply chain to marketing to consumer insights. This is an opportunity to work on challenging problems spanning the breadth of Hershey's business. Because of the extreme ambiguity in direction, you will be expected to pick up new skills and technologies independently. • Design and build new software and features to solve a broad set of business problems.
• Work with our business partners to understand the business context of our team’s systems and influence tradeoff decisions to meet business needs. You will help the team to define features that can be delivered independently.
• In addition to hands-on building, you may mentor more junior engineers to deliver features and foster a collaborative, high-performing environment.
• You are expected to be able to diagnose and fix typical bugs in the team’s codebase. You produce high quality code without much feedback.
• You will also conduct technical interviews as needed as well as participate in the team on call rotation.

Qualifications:

• 4-7 years of experience, with a bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field
• Experience designing, building, and operating/supporting production software systems.
• Experience with testing at all levels (unit, integration, functional), and monitoring, alerting, and supporting software systems.
• Understanding of continuous integration / continuous delivery (CI/CD).
• Ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring clarity and alignment across teams.
• Able to work somewhat independently.
• Able to learn new programming languages and frameworks.
• Curious: able and willing to learn as you go.
