[Remote] Advisor-Software Engineer
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. FedEx Freight is a leading provider in the logistics industry, seeking a technical leader to serve as an Advisor-Software Engineer. The role involves designing, developing, troubleshooting, and debugging complex software programs, while also leading the adoption of modern architectures and enhancing application capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Ensures application of systems thinking principles, allowing team members to independently design, code, test, and deploy software
- Provide necessary documentation to support the Software Development Life Cycle
- Develops prototypes and solutions leveraging a diverse range of technology
- Advises in the application of modern architectures, principles, methodologies, tools, and systemic processes to support the launch of new business capabilities
- Lead the resolution of highly complex problems
- Research and integrate emerging technologies to enhance application capabilities and overall system architecture
- Comply with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as company policies/procedures
- Perform other duties as required
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, information systems or other quantitative discipline or equivalent work experience, plus five (5) years' experience in information technology or engineering environment
- Expertise in programming languages
- Strong understanding of software architecture principles, microservices, and cloud computing platforms
- Strong leadership, customer and people development skills
- Strong problem solving, project management and analytical skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- 6+ years backend development OOP (Java, .NET/C#)
- API design: REST, GraphQL, event-driven patterns
- Microservice architecture
- Messaging (JMS or equivalent)
- GitHub workflows, branch protection, CI/CD
- Experience targeting distributed environments
- Container orchestration (EKS, GKE, AKS)
- Code review practices
- Developer tooling and platform engineering
- AI-driven development: MCP, multi-agentic flows, spec-driven approaches
- MuleSoft or similar iPaaS experience (plus, not required)
- EDI or integration architecture (plus, not required)
- Experience in regulated/compliance-heavy environments
- Leading multiple projects as technical lead
- Mentoring developers, raising the technical bar
- Setting standards without being a blocker
- Peer-building mindset: patient but uncompromising on quality
- Influencing across teams without formal authority
- Participation in cross-team ceremonies such as architecture review boards, change control reviews, etc
