[Remote] Director of Engineering - Internal Platform

They are looking for a Director of Engineering to lead multiple engineering teams, focusing on technical direction, architectural vision, and the development of foundational initiatives that enhance the organization's performance and compliance.
Responsibilities
- Treat the Internal Platform as a product, prioritizing developer experience (DX) and reducing cognitive load for internal engineering teams
- Define and execute technical strategy across multiple engineering teams, aligning technology initiatives with business objectives and our platform's evolution
- Lead and mentor a team of Engineering Managers and very senior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and continuous learning
- Drive architectural decisions for large-scale distributed systems, focusing on scalability, reliability, and performance optimization
- Champion best practices in software development, system design, and operational excellence across the engineering organization
- Manage complex technical debt and guide system modernization efforts while maintaining platform stability
- Represent Pantheon's technical interests by building and maintaining strong relationships with essential technology partners and vendors
Skills
- 12+ years of engineering experience with 3+ years in senior roles managing other managers
- Proven track record of building and leading multiple high-performing engineering teams
- Track record of successful large-scale technical initiatives and organizational transformation
- Executive-level communication skills with ability to translate complex technical concepts for various audiences
- Advanced knowledge of cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, or Azure) and container orchestration systems
- Delivery of critical compliance initiatives including SOC2, PCI, ISO, and/or FedRAMP
- Expert understanding of distributed systems design, microservices architecture, and cloud-native technologies
- Supporting AI-native development workflows, including LLM integration and agentic automation
- Proficiency with modern development practices, CI/CD, and DevOps methodologies
- Staff-level architectural knowledge with passion for driving decision-making through in-depth technical discussions
- Strong foundation in programming languages such as Go, Python, or Java
