Consumer Engagement Automation Specialist II

Work from home Full-time role Hiring

Consumer Engagement Automation Specialist II About b.well Connected Health: b.well Connected Health is a healthcare technology company transforming the consumer healthcare experience. We unify health data, services, and benefits into one personalized digital experience - making it easier for people to navigate their care, take action on what matters, and live healthier lives. Our values: Be Bold, Be Yourself, Be Creative, Be One Team. About The Role The Consumer Engagement Automation Specialist is the hands-on builder of b.well's consumer engagement machine. You will design, configure, and automate the journeys, campaigns, and lifecycle programs that move members to action across email, SMS, push, and in-app channels - working in Iterable and across the full CES tooling stack. This is not a strategy role and it is not a reporting role. It is an execution role for someone who is energized by building - someone who opens Iterable and sees possibility, who treats data schema hygiene as a professional standard, and who ships clean, well-documented automation that doesn't require reverse-engineering six months later. You will be a direct report to the Manager, Consumer Engagement Operations, and a critical technical partner to Engineering, Data, and Product. At this stage of b.well, the right person in this role meaningfully expands what the CES team can build and deliver across our enterprise client portfolio (Walgreens, ThedaCare, WellSense, Samsung, and Legacy partners).

What You'll Do

Build and operate lifecycle programs in Iterable: Design and configure multi-channel journeys, triggered campaigns, broadcast sends, and A/B experiments across email, SMS, push, and in-app - from architecture through QA and launch. Own template development: build, maintain, and version-control email and push templates in Iterable, applying personalization via Handlebars, dynamic content, and user profile fields. Configure and manage segmentation: build and maintain audience segments, custom events, and user profile schemas that power targeting, personalization, and journey triggers. Run QA on every send - rendering, link validation, personalization logic, suppression, opt-out compliance, and deliverability checks. Ship nothing that hasn't been tested. Maintain the campaign and journey library: document everything you build so it is reproducible, handoffable, and not living only in your head. Own data schema, data hygiene, and integrations: Maintain and evolve the Iterable data schema - user profile fields, custom events, and data feeds - in partnership with Engineering. Document schema changes and their downstream impact. Run a recurring data cleanliness audit cadence. Identify, flag, and resolve data quality issues before they affect segmentation accuracy or campaign performance. Partner with Engineering on list APIs, event trigger design, and FHIR data flows that feed the engagement stack. Translate technical requirements clearly in both directions. Support integrations across the stack: SendGrid (email delivery), OneSignal (push), Twilio (SMS), Wagtail CMS, CPS, and Lokalise (translation workflows). Execute content publishing and in-app workflows: Build and publish in-app activities, journeys, and content modules through CPS and Wagtail CMS. Own the end-to-end publishing workflow from content intake to live experience. Manage translation and localization workflows in Lokalise, coordinating content handoffs and ensuring Spanish-language and multi-locale content ships accurately and on time. Support operational tasks via Django admin and operational tooling as needed for manual pushes, emergency suppression, and one-off operational needs. Contribute to analytics and experimentation: Build and maintain campaign performance reports in Sigma. Surface actionable insights on open rates, click rates, action rates, conversion, and suppression trends. Design and execute A/B tests with clear hypotheses, defined success metrics, and documented findings. Close the loop on experiment results with written summaries. Bring data to planning conversations. Flag when performance is off, propose what to test next, and track the engagement KPIs the team is accountable to. Drive scalability and documentation: Document every workflow, automation, and build decision you own. If it isn't documented, it doesn't exist. Proactively identify process bottlenecks and propose improvements - don't wait to be asked. Bring a problem statement, a proposed solution, and an effort estimate. Build reusable templates, campaign blueprints, and playbooks that allow the team to onboard new clients and launch new programs faster. Operate with a "10 new clients tomorrow" mindset: every system you touch should be more scalable after you've been in it. The Stack You'll Own You will be expected to be hands-on and self-sufficient in these systems: Iterable (engagement platform): journeys, campaigns, templates, segmentation, personalization, A/B testing, Handlebars, custom events, and user profile schema. SendGrid (email), OneSignal (push), Twilio (SMS): channel delivery. Wagtail CMS (Content Management System), CPS (Content Publishing Service), Lokalise (translation and localization workflows): content systems. Sigma (BI/reporting), data sources and schema powering Iterable, FHIR data flows with Engineering: data and analytics. Django admin (operational tasks and manual pushes), Jira (intake and delivery), Confluence (documentation): operations tooling. You don't need to arrive with mastery in every tool. You must arrive with deep, current, hands-on Iterable expertise and the technical aptitude to learn adjacent systems quickly. What You'll Bring Required: 4-6 years of hands-on experience in marketing automation, lifecycle marketing, or engagement operations - with the majority of that time spent building in a leading marketing automation platform. Deep, current, hands-on expertise in Iterable - or equivalent platform experience (Braze, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, HubSpot) with demonstrated ability to ramp quickly on Iterable. Proven ability to build production-ready journeys, triggered campaigns, and multi-channel programs from architecture through QA and launch, with a clear definition of done. Strong data schema instincts: experience maintaining user profile fields, custom events, segmentation logic, and data feeds in a marketing automation platform. Analytical fluency: comfortable in BI tools (Sigma, Looker, Tableau, or similar), able to design experiments, read performance data, and surface actionable insight. Excellent written communication: you proactively share status, surface blockers early, and document your work without being asked. Experience in a regulated or data-sensitive environment: understanding of PHI, opt-out compliance, consent management, and the operational discipline they require. Track record of project ownership: you scope your own work, sequence releases incrementally, and close the loop on everything you start. Embodies b.well values: Be Bold, Be Yourself, Be Creative, Be One Team - with a growth mindset, comfort with ambiguity, and the humility to receive direct feedback. Preferred: Healthcare, digital health, payer, or provider-side experience. Working knowledge of FHIR data, healthcare interoperability standards, or clinical campaign use cases (care gaps, condition management, vaccines, care navigation). Working knowledge of SQL or experience partnering with data engineering on segmentation logic and event schema design. Experience with Handlebars templating for dynamic content personalization in Iterable or similar platforms. Experience managing translation and localization workflows (Lokalise or similar). Familiarity with CMS-driven content publishing workflows. Spanish language proficiency (a plus given our localization program). Success Profile (First 12 Months): The automation and journey library is fully documented - no critical capability lives only in one person's head. Every build you own has a documented owner, a defined maintenance cadence, and a written runbook. Data schema and data hygiene are on a recurring, on-time audit cadence with zero critical data quality issues affecting campaign performance. Campaigns and journeys you build ship on time, meet the definition of done, and require no rework for critical errors post-launch. The team can onboard a new client's engagement program meaningfully faster than before you arrived - because you've built reusable templates, playbooks, and scalable infrastructure. You are known across Engineering, Product, and CS as a reliable, proactive technical partner - people pull you in early because they trust your delivery. You surface blockers and status updates without being asked, and the Manager's time is not spent chasing your project status. Core Competencies: Communication & Influence: Proactively communicates status, blockers, and decisions without being asked. Writes clearly for cross-functional audiences. Can present work and outcomes to stakeholders across product, engineering, and client strategy. Results Delivery & Judgment: Owns projects end-to-end with a clear definition of done. Scopes and sequences work to ship incrementally. Identifies and surfaces risk before it becomes a problem. Balances build quality with delivery pace. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Works fluidly with Engineering, Data, Product, and CS. Translates between technical and business contexts. Pulls in the right people early and documents shared decisions. AI Fluency & Responsible Use: Uses AI tooling to accelerate work (drafting, segmentation logic, content creation) while applying sound judgment on PHI, consent, and data sensitivity. Function / Discipline Depth: Deep, current hands-on expertise in marketing automation platforms (Iterable strongly preferred), multi-channel campaign operations, data schema management, and engagement analytics.
