About the Role

A growing Third-Party Administrator (TPA) within the employee benefits space is seeking a Fractional Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead a full rebuild of its finance function. This is a high-impact, hands-on leadership engagement focused on stabilizing financial operations, redesigning core accounting processes, and building a scalable financial infrastructure to support long-term growth. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in TPA or benefits administration environments, with strong experience in claims-based financial structures, multi-client reporting, and end-to-end finance transformation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the assessment and full rebuild of the finance department, including designing a new organizational structure and scalable workflows
  • Develop a complete finance org chart and oversee the hiring of 6 finance team members to fully staff and operationalize the function
  • Oversee core financial operations including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial reporting
  • Establish and enforce strong internal controls, compliance standards, and audit-ready financial processes within a TPA environment
  • Provide strategic financial leadership to executive stakeholders to support data-driven decision-making and long-term planning
  • Manage financial oversight of claims-based revenue streams, premium billing, and multi-client financial reporting
  • Partner closely with operations, claims, and client services teams to ensure financial alignment across all benefit programs
  • Evaluate and implement improvements to financial systems, ERP platforms, and reporting tools to improve accuracy and scalability
  • Serve as a fractional executive, balancing strategic oversight with hands-on execution

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including senior leadership roles (CFO, VP Finance, Controller in complex environments)
  • Direct experience in a Third-Party Administrator (TPA), benefits administration, insurance, or payor organization is required
  • Proven experience building or rebuilding finance organizations, including team design and hiring
  • Strong understanding of claims-based financial models, multi-client accounting, and healthcare/benefits revenue structures
  • Expertise in GAAP, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
  • Experience with ERP systems and financial reporting tools in complex operational environments
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fractional, advisory, and execution-focused leadership capacity
