Job title: RN Acute Neuro Full Time Nights Company: Spectrum Health Job description: We are excited to be offering up to $10,000 in bonuses, increased base hourly rates, as well as competitive shift differentials 4 South is a med surg floor with higher acuity neuro patients. The patient to nurse ratio is 4-5 on days and 5-6 on nights. Caring for patients with traumatic brain injuries, recovering from strokes, as well as neuro-surgery, this is a strongly collaborative team of nurses. There are various positions available on the unit, including part time and full time, day and night shift. Hours: 7:00pm to 7:30am Schedule: Flexible scheduling offered Weekends: Every other Responsibilities In this role you will be instrumental in the care of general neurology and neurosurgical patients. 4 South is one of the largest medical/surgical units in Butterworth. 4 South nurses are highly regarded for their team orientation, advanced technical skills, strong perception and compassionate care. Our neurosurgical patients are highly complex. We care for spine surgery patients, patients who have undergone craniotomy and craniectomy for brain tumor resection, removal or debulking and elective aneurysm interventions. Our general neurology patients include those who have experienced acute, stroke, seizure, chronic headaches and general neurological disorders including Guillen-Barre Syndrome, multiple sclerosis, and myasthenia gravis exacerbations. Being a med/surg unit, we provide quality care for many general medicine patients: pneumonia, cellulitis, GI bleeds, alcohol withdrawal and patients who have experience drug overdose are just a few examples. The professional growth and development opportunities truly prepare a nurse for the next steps in their career. We provide neuro-specific training through classes, online learning modules, and 1-1 instruction on the unit with your preceptor. First year RNs can participate in our new grad float pool program. This is specifically designed to support new graduates during their first year on the job as they transition to professional practice. Essential Functions
  • Provides evidence-based nursing care consistent with the interprofessional plan of care and in accordance with health system policies, procedures, and ANA/regulatory standards. Communicates and collaborates with other members of the health care team in order to ensure continuity and coordination of care. Acts as a patient/family advocate. Performs point of care testing as required.
  • Demonstrates a high standard of moral, ethical, and culturally sensitive behavior. Formulates decisions and actions based on ethical principles, using the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses to guide practice. Advocates for privacy, confidentiality and security of patient, staff and organizational data.
  • Assesses the overall needs of the patient/family and analyzes the assessment data to identify potential diagnoses or issues.
  • Identifies expected outcomes/goals and develops and implements/coordinates an individualized interprofessional plan of care that recommends strategies to achieve the outcomes in accordance with the ANA Standards of Practice. Evaluates patient and family educational needs and employs appropriate teaching strategies while continually evaluating progress toward achievement of goals/outcomes.
  • Initiates patient discharge planning at time of patient contact and facilitates a smooth transition to the next point of service/home.
  • Ensures that required documentation is performed in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Assumes an autonomous leadership role and delegates appropriately to unlicensed assistive personnel to facilitate safe, quality patient care in a cost-effective manner.
  • Engages in activities related to the professional role and seeks to continually advance knowledge and competence related to nursing practice while completing self and peer evaluation of nursing practice. Participates in ongoing improvement activities that contribute to quality patient care.
Qualifications
  • Associate Degree in Nursing required
  • Bachelor's Degree of Science in Nursing must be obtained within 5 years
  • Successful completion of a competency-based orientation program required
  • State of Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) License required upon hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days
