Role Description
Mercor is collaborating with a leading AI lab to engage Home & Garden buying experts as independent contractors. You’ll turn real shopper briefs into clear, confident product picks—covering areas such as:
- Furniture and décor
- Bedding and bath
- Kitchen and cookware
- Small/major appliances
- Lighting
- Storage/organization
- Outdoor furniture and grills
Your job is to make great buys obvious for a wide range of styles and budgets. This is a short-term, project-based opportunity with full flexibility to set your own hours.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate shopper needs (style, space, budget, lifestyle) into well-justified recommendations with links, prices, pros/cons, and “who this is for.”
- Compare across price tiers and retailers; call out value picks and premium standouts and note availability/return policies.
- Consider fit and logistics (dimensions/clearances, delivery/assembly, finishes/care, kid/pet friendliness).
- Create quick, skimmable buyer’s guides for common use cases (small-apartment sofa, starter cookware set, quiet dishwasher, patio set for a balcony, renter-friendly lighting).
- Review and refine AI-suggested picks; correct mistakes, add missing context, and suggest alternatives from reputable retailers.
Qualifications
- Hands-on, buyer-facing background: showroom or specialty retail, home goods/kitchen stores, appliance sales, category merchandising, or credible editorial/product review experience. Serious enthusiasts with track records also welcome.
- Comfortable cross-shopping multiple retailers and price tiers; fluent in linking to trustworthy sources and writing balanced pros/cons.
- Inclusive, practical judgment (materials/durability basics, easy care, kid/pet considerations).
- Nice to have: professional interior styling education.
Requirements
- Remote and asynchronous — work on your own schedule.
- Flexible weekly commitment; project flow may vary.
- Short-term and project-based, with potential for ongoing work.
- You control your methods and schedule; Mercor support team available for inquiries.
Compensation & Contract Terms
- $40–$70/hour (USD), depending on demonstrated expertise and depth of work.
- Payments for services rendered issued weekly via Stripe Connect.
- Independent contractor classification; set your own hours.
- Scope and rates may vary by project.
