We're seeking an experienced Machinist II to join our team on the 3rd shift at Workwarp. As a key member of our production team, you'll play a critical role in ensuring the quality and efficiency of our manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities

As a Machinist II, you'll be responsible for setting up and operating thread grinding and/or milling machines to rough, finish, and semi-finish rotors, shafts, grooves, gears, worms, splines, and screw gears to size, index, form, and finish as required. Your key activities will include:

  • Operating two or more machines to rough and finish grind or mill rotor threads to form, size, index, and finish as required to produce proper contact
  • Operating up to four machines (shaft lathe, thread mill, NCG, and a thread grinder) in a rotor cell, while meeting daily throughput demands
  • Checking rotors for form using rotor master, form gages, and other measuring devices
  • Making adjustments when necessary to produce proper form
  • Operating N.C. controlled machines
  • Using precision measuring instruments such as verniers, micrometers, dial electronic indicators, electronic measuring equipment, gash gages, etc. standard and special gages and templates in order to maintain dimensions, contour, close tolerances, and surface finish as required
  • Setting up roughing and finishing, as well as semi-finishing machines; assembling lead, feed Q and R, ratio, and cutter speed gears; assembling work drivers and tail stock center; positioning and locating steady rest jaws; assembling cutter, setting helix angle to obtain proper thread form
  • Determining cutter and work rotation and rotation of dividing head for proper index; selecting cutter speeds and setting stops
  • Making trial cuts to obtain correct thread size and form with respect to masters, E.S. (engineering specifications), and verbal instructions
  • Setting dial indicator and/or other precision measuring equipment to obtain proper depth, land size, off center, n.w. size, lay back, form, root contour, lead, etc., on finished cuts
  • Operating a number of thread milling machines as required, roughing, finishing, and semi-finishing, to mill threads, grooves, gears, worms, and splines in various materials
  • Utilizing idle time during the running of the thread forming machines to perform miscellaneous job assignments
  • Recognizing and immediately correcting, without assistance, for machining difficulties and errors, or causing to have corrected if fault is due to machine tool, equipment, or material
  • Removing burrs and sharp edges, marking, identifying, preserving, and protecting parts as directed
  • Making master rotors
  • Consistently producing work of proper quality and of properly required quantity
  • Performing other related duties as responsibilities necessitate

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

  • High school diploma or equivalent - technical degree/certification preferred
  • 1-3 years machining experience
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with others and be a participative team player
  • Ability to work from verbal and written instruction
  • Ability to read and work to blueprints, sketches, set up cards, and charts and tables, with or without job tag instructions
